Wikipedia sums it up best: WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and
a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. Features include a plugin architecture
and a template system. WordPress was used by more than 22.0% of the top 10 million websites as
of August 2013.
WordPress is an excellent choice for simple and moderately complex websites. It has developed a
very strong community support system. This results in a wide variety of available WordPress
themes and plugins to fit your company’s image. A quality WordPress theme or plugin typically
costs money. One can expect to pay anywhere from $50 – $125 for a theme and $50 – $200 for a
plugin. This is much more efficient compared to hiring a developer and designer to create these.
What normally takes me 12 hours to design and create can be purchased for about $75 dollars on
WordPress. This makes WordPress a great choice for rapid website development.
There are many free WordPress themes but we don’t recommend that route. You get what you pay
for. WordPress themes are typically easy to customize to a degree. Even an average user can
quickly customize a simple WordPress theme. However, extensive customization needs a skilled
WordPress developer to give it that professional edge.
